Nozomi is the backbone of Japan's Golden Route: Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shin-Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto and Shin-Osaka, with many trains running on to Hiroshima and Hakata.

All 16-car trains have free Wi-Fi. On the newest N700S trains every seat has a power outlet; on older sets ordinary-class outlets are at window seats and the front and back rows.

Since October 2026 some N700S trains also carry 'Supreme Class' private cabins, booked through Smart EX.

Going west from Tokyo, pick seat E (window, right side) for Mt. Fuji — weather permitting.

How to book from abroad

Smart EX is JR Central's English booking site and app: register for free with a credit card, then board with a QR code or a registered IC card.

Station sales open at 10:00, one month ahead; Smart EX sells some seats up to a year ahead.

    Register on Smart EX

    Free sign-up on the website (the app is only in some countries' stores). Use a regular credit card; 3-D Secure may be required.

  2. 2

    Choose your train and seat

    Pick seat E for Mt. Fuji. Carrying a big suitcase? Choose a 'seat with oversized baggage area'.

  3. 3

    Board with a QR code or IC card

    Scan the QR ticket at the gate, or tap the IC card you registered. Changes are free before departure.

  4. 4

    Buy food before boarding

    Trolley sales ended in 2023. Grab an ekiben at Tokyo Station; only Green-car passengers can order on board.

Pick up your order at a konbini

    Overseas cards work; Amazon.co.jp can be switched to English.

  2. STEP 2

    Choose konbini pickup

    Amazon: Lawson, FamilyMart or Ministop (not 7-Eleven). Rakuten: only shops that offer it — look for コンビニ受取 at checkout.

  3. STEP 3

    Wait for the pickup email

    It contains a barcode or pickup number. Allow a few days, and check the holding period.

  4. STEP 4

    Collect at the counter

    Show the code at the register (or print a slip at Lawson's Loppi terminal). No hotel front-desk hassle.

Not available for marketplace-seller items, chilled/frozen food, alcohol or oversized goods. Pickup stores and rules change — confirm on the checkout screen.
