From Friday 13 November 2026, one 12-car E7 series Shinkansen will carry a wrap featuring magical creatures from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, with the message "Let's go and meet magical creatures". It's part of the second joint campaign between JR East, Seibu Railway and Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo.

The wrapped train runs on the Joetsu Shinkansen between Tokyo and Niigata (as Toki and Tanigawa services) and on the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Tokyo and Tsuruga (as Kagayaki, Hakutaka, Tsurugi and Asama services) until around November 2027. JR East won't publish which services it operates each day.

From 13 November to 13 December there is also a digital stamp rally: scan the QR codes on posters at JR Niigata, JR Nagano, JR Ueno, JR Ikebukuro, Seibu Ikebukuro and Seibu Toshimaen stations and at the Studio Tour itself. Prizes include Studio Tour tickets (10 pairs, by lottery) and, for the first 1,500 people to collect every stamp, a hologram sticker.

For visitors

  • Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo is next to Seibu Toshimaen Station; admission tickets must be bought online in advance.
  • The wrapped E7 is a normal scheduled train — any Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen ticket (or the JAPAN RAIL PASS) is valid on it, but you can't book that specific set.
  • The Studio Tour's winter event runs from 13 November 2026 to 11 January 2027.
