Toyama's open-air gorge railway is back on its full Unazuki–Keyakidaira route since 1 October 2026, and visitors with the JAPAN RAIL PASS or JR West area passes get 10% off same-day round trips.

The Kurobe Gorge Railway — narrow-gauge trolley trains that wind through one of Japan's deepest gorges from Unazuki Onsen in Toyama Prefecture — has been running over its whole line from Unazuki to Keyakidaira again since 1 October 2026, and seats to Keyakidaira can be booked online.

Work is still going on around Keyakidaira, so at the terminus you can visit only the station and the Keyakidaira Visitor Center; the railway recommends allowing about an hour there before the return train.

For foreign visitors, the railway takes 10% off round-trip fares until 30 November 2026 when you show an eligible JR pass at the Unazuki Station ticket window. The discounted round trip is ¥4,480 for adults (¥2,240 children) to Keyakidaira, or ¥3,220 (¥1,620) to Kanetsuri.

For visitors

  • Eligible passes: JAPAN RAIL PASS, Hokuriku Arch Pass, Hokuriku Area Pass, Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass, JR West All Area Pass, Hokuriku One-Way Ticket, Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass and the Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tour Ticket.
  • The discount is for same-day tickets only — it can't be combined with advance booking — and one pass covers one person. The relax cars cost an extra ¥600.
  • The JR Pass doesn't cover the Kurobe Gorge Railway itself. From Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, change at the neighbouring Shin-Kurobe Station to the Toyama Chiho Railway for Unazuki-Onsen.
  • From 1 to 6 December, turnback services between Unazuki and Sasadaira are taken by phone booking only.
