How to ride the Nagasaki streetcar: ¥150 anywhere, IC cards and card touch accepted
長崎電気軌道(路面電車)の乗り方
Every ride costs a flat ¥150 (child ¥80), paid by nationwide IC card, contactless credit card or exact cash — and the ¥600 day pass is not sold on board.
Nagasaki Electric Tramway's streetcars link Nagasaki Station with Glover Garden, Dejima, Chinatown, the Peace Park and Hamanomachi. The fare is the same however far you go: ¥150 for adults and ¥80 for children per ride.

Step by step
01Choose how to pay
Nationwide IC cards (Suica, ICOCA, nimoca and the others), contactless credit cards and cash are all accepted.
02Have coins ready
The fare box gives no change. Change money beforehand at the fare boxes at the front and rear of the car.
03Move inside
Don't stand by the entrance — move inside the car so others can get on and off.
04Day pass? Show it as you get off
Show the date part of your one-day pass to the driver when you get off.
One-day pass and transfers
The one-day pass (電車一日乗車券) costs ¥600 for adults and ¥300 for elementary-school children and covers every streetcar line for the day; each person needs their own. It is not sold on board — buy it at tourist information centres, hotel front desks along the lines or the company's offices. A mobile version for smartphones is also available.
With an IC card or contactless credit card, the second ride is free when you change streetcars at a stop where the cashless transfer discount applies — not every transfer qualifies.
Good to know
- Buying the day pass at a hotel you're not staying at? Ask first — some hotels keep only a few for their guests.
- The JAPAN RAIL PASS is not valid on the streetcar.
