Tokai Kisen's high-speed jet ships — jetfoils that ride on underwater wings at up to about 80 km/h — run from Takeshiba Passenger Terminal in central Tokyo to Izu Oshima in 1 hour 45 minutes. Tokai Kisen says they barely roll, which helps if you get seasick.

From 29 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 the jet ship leaves Tokyo at 8:35 (arriving 10:20) and 13:25 (arriving 15:10), and leaves Oshima at 10:40 and 14:40. Extra sailings are added on some days in November and December. There's also an overnight large ship: Tokyo 22:00 → Oshima about 6:00 the next morning, from ¥6,160 in 2nd class.

Step by step

  1. 01Get to Takeshiba

    Takeshiba Passenger Terminal is 1 minute on foot from Takeshiba Station on the Yurikamome, 7 minutes from JR Hamamatsucho Station (North Exit) and 10 minutes from Daimon Station.

  2. 02Book a seat

    Every seat is reserved, so book in advance. Online booking (free membership, credit card only) opens at 0:00 on the same date two months before and closes 1 hour before departure. You can also book by phone (03-5472-9999, 9:30–18:00) and pay at the port.

  3. 03Check in 30 minutes before

    Arrive about 30 minutes before the jet ship leaves. At the counter, show your booking confirmation email (online) or booking number (phone) and collect your ticket. If check-in isn't done 15 minutes before departure, the booking may be cancelled.

  4. 04Fill in the boarding form

    Write your details on the boarding form on the right-hand part of the ticket. Show that stub at the gate; keep the other half to find your seat — it's collected when you get off.

  5. 05Stay inside

    The jet ship has no deck: you can't go outside during the trip. No smoking on board.

Luggage on the jet ship

Small personal items are free. Other bags, up to 2 per person, are free if together they're no more than 120 cm in total of three sides and 20 kg; up to 200 cm and 30 kg costs ¥1,200 one way. Anything bigger can't go on the jet ship. Buy a baggage ticket at the counter before boarding. Space is limited, so send big items ahead by courier.

Other ports

Jet ships also run to Oshima from Atami (9:10 → 9:55, ¥6,330) and Ito (¥5,300) in the October–January season. On Oshima there are two ports, Okada and Motomachi; which one is used is decided on the day and can differ between your outward and return trips.

Good to know

  • In October 2026 Tokai Kisen received a suspension order for some of its ships from the Kanto District Transport Bureau; some sailings were stopped from 9 to 28 October and a revised timetable is in force. Check the latest timetable before you travel.
  • Since 31 August 2026 Tokai Kisen has waived change and cancellation fees until further notice.
  • If your return sailing is cancelled, you're moved to another sailing — possibly the next day — and any extra hotel costs are yours. In rough seas, return departures can also be brought forward.
  • Credit cards work at the ticket counters but not on board.
