- No reservations — tickets at the departure port only

Naoshima, the art island, is reached by Shikoku Kisen boats from two sides of the Seto Inland Sea: Takamatsu in Shikoku and Uno, at the end of the JR Uno Line from Okayama. Most boats arrive at Miyanoura port; some passenger boats from Uno go to Honmura on the other side of the island.
There are no reservations and no advance tickets. Each port sells tickets only for the boats leaving from it, and if a boat is full you take the next one — so leave time to spare, especially for the small high-speed and passenger boats (60–80 seats) compared with the ferries (400–500).
乗り方の流れ
Step by step
01Walk to the port
Takamatsu port is about 5 minutes on foot from JR Takamatsu Station. Uno port is about 5 minutes from JR Uno Station (about 50 minutes from Okayama on the Uno Line).
02Find the right ticket office
At both Takamatsu and Uno, the ferry ticket office and the office for the high-speed or passenger boats are separate buildings, about 3 minutes' walk apart.
03Buy your ticket
At Takamatsu, ferry tickets go on sale 40 minutes before departure and high-speed boat tickets 30 minutes before (for the last 20:30 boat, buy from the crew at the pier). High-speed and passenger boat tickets are cash only. Credit cards work only at the ticket machines in the Takamatsu, Miyanoura and Uno ferry terminals.
04Board in order of arrival
Queue and board first come, first served. If the boat is full, you take the next sailing.
Round trips and switching boats
Ferry round-trip tickets: the outward half is valid only on the day you buy it, the return half for 7 days including that day. One-way tickets are valid on the day of sale. Going back from Naoshima on the faster boat with a Takamatsu ferry round trip? Buy a difference ticket at Miyanoura (¥910, child ¥460).
Uno-route fares rose on 1 February 2026; the fares above are the new ones.
Luggage
Coin lockers are at the Takamatsu ferry terminal (including extra-large), the Takamatsu high-speed boat terminal (small only) and Miyanoura port. Shikoku Kisen's cargo offices in Takamatsu and Uno can also forward luggage to Naoshima (Takamatsu 7:30–15:00, Uno 8:00–15:00; closed Sundays and holidays).
Good to know
- Boats — especially the high-speed and passenger boats — are suspended in bad weather or rough seas. Check Shikoku Kisen's service status before you travel.
- Folding bicycles, even in a bag, aren't allowed on the high-speed or passenger boats; take the ferry.
- There are no shops on board, only drink vending machines on the ferries.
- Shikoku Kisen doesn't list any rail pass as valid on these boats.
